Information on activities organization concerning the period March 2009 - January 2010

In March 2009 the Mayor of Olawa, Franciszek Październik, decided to inform the city authorities from all over Europe which have a cock in the flag of the city, about his intention of implementing a plan of multilateral cooperation and integration, which we called "Eurogallus. This information was prepared in 6 languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish) and distributed to 350 mayors of cities and towns in 27 European countries. Its contents included, in addition to the website (www.eurogallus.eu-temporary site-), which will have an important role in the future, creating a space as well as the exchange of information among all participating organizations and persons concerning the project. This material is available in the archive page of that site. The portal also contains maps and lists of these places and, in the near future, their names and pictures of the symbol of the city members. We anticipate that in the short term will be changed only in Polish and English. In the meantime, we have found more than 30 new towns "with the cock" and the list goes up to 390. We added 2 new countries: Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina. All these changes we have noted on our site, which, unfortunately, is still in provisional form.

At the letter from our Mayor replied 20 cities from 11 countries (including almost half of them are Italians!) And 6 Poles, who have declared their willingness to cooperate. We took into account the larger units, capable of supporting the financial participation in the program Intereg IVc, through which we wanted to apply for funds.
In this situation we were forced to revise our plan of action for the coming years regarding the funding request of the Interreg IVC is regarded worldwide as one of the most difficult for sources of funding so we have prepared a preliminary outline of a project to apply funds more accessible (and less demanding both in preparing for construction) as the one called "Europe for Citizens Action Network 1.2 of twin cities”

In October of the last year we sent to 20 municipalities, the new project, which provides for the organization in 1 year and a half of more than 4 meetings in the form of lectures and seminars on themes and forms of future cooperation, 2 of these meetings will be held in Olawa and two outside Polish borders. The contribution of each partner will be limited in principle to a maximum of 4 persons per group (of which at least 1 person should be constant in all 4 meetings), and as regards to the financial part - for partial participation in the cost travel to places of encounter. At the end of 2009, despite our best efforts we were unable to obtain confirmation by potential partners about participation in the project, as the deadline for submitting applications for grant funds was 1 February 2010. The next deadline for applications will be September 1, 2010.

We want to use this period to a greater diffusion of our ideas and information available through the larger "city with the rooster" in Europe. To this end in June 2010 we want to organize in Olawa (during the festival of our city - "the days of the Rooster"), an exhibition concerning the information city magazines. We know that there are about 50 magazines of this kind. The exhibition will be accompanied by a conference with representatives of 20 editors or editorial boards of Lower Silesia in Poland. We believe that this is a good opportunity for using these international relations established after the conference to let appear in magazines information concerning the project „Eurogallus”, generating enthusiasm for the various local organizations that wish to contribute to this integration project. We hope that this initiative will help us to attract international partners for the second year project which we intend to request the application before 1st September 2010.
